Water sports will be conducted at Janivara Lake, in the taluk, as part of the Bahubali Mahamastakabhisheka, said MLA C N Balakrishna.

Speaking to reporters, after inspecting the works under progress, here, on Tuesday, Balakrishna said, the Tourism department has released Rs 50 lakh for conducting water sports, during the festival.

"Besides, the funds sanctioned for Mahamastakabhisheka has also been used. About 75% of works have been completed. Nirmiti Kendra has taken up the works on a war footing. Water sports are expected to attract tourists visiting Shravanabelagola, to be a part of the festival," he said.

The Cauvery Neeravari Nigama has sanctioned Rs 2 crore to take up the works to ensure that water flows freely into the lake to facilitate water sports.

Parking arrangements will be made at the spot for the benefit of tourists. A two-lane road should be laid on Janivara Lake to enable free movement of vehicles, he felt.

Town Municipal Council former president C N Shashidhar was present.
