Kundapur division DCF S Prabhakaran said people should extend support to the forest department in the conservation of forest.

Speaking at blood donation camp organised as a part of Forest Martyrs’ Day, by the State DCF Association, Blood Bank of District Hospital here on Tuesday, he said, “Forest is a valuable natural resource. There is a need to conserve it. Amid challenges, the department officials are working towards conserving the forest. All of us have a responsibility to conserve the forest.”

It was on September 11, 1730, that over 363 people of Bishnoi tribe were killed in Khejarli, now in Rajasthan, when they had objected to the felling of Khejri trees by the king of Jodhpur. To remember their sacrifice, the government has declared September 11 as National Forest Martyrs’ Day.

“Several forest officials have sacrificed their lives while safeguarding the natural resources inside the forest in the last 50 years,” he said.

Lions District 317 C Governor Talluru Shivaram Shetty said blood donation is a noble service. More blood donation camps should be organised, he added.

Kudremukh Wild Life Division DCF Ganesh Bhat, District Surgeon Dr Madhusood Nayak, and others were present.
