Bengaluru: Nearly a month after the statewide survey of Scheduled Castes (SCs) concluded, the Justice Nagamohan Das Commission will submit its report on internal reservation to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday.
The Das Commission will recommend its formula to share the 17% reservation for SCs amongst the SC (Right), SC (Left), “touchable” and nomadic communities.
While the BJP has been aggressively campaigning for the speedy implementation of internal reservation, leaders within the Congress, especially those from the Madiga/ SC (left) community, have nudged the government to implement it. On Saturday, Home Minister G Parameshwara, an SC (Right) leader, convened a meeting of SC ministers and MLAs in the Congress to iron out internal differences on the issue. Internal reservation has been a decades-long demand of the Madiga community, who have claimed that they been historically deprived of reservation benefits.
If implemented, Karnataka will become the fourth state in the country after Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana to implement internal reservation.
