The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has permitted the Kaiga Atomic Power Station (KAPS) to keep its first plant functional till December 31.
On October 24, it became the first plant in the Heavy Pressurised Water Reactor category to have generated power continuously for 894 days.
As on Thursday, the plant has generated the power continuously for 916 days.
If all goes well, it will go down in the history as the first plant to have generated electricity continuously for maximum days breaking the record of continuous power generation for 940 days set by Heysham Power Station, Heysham, Lancashire, England,” said an officer.
