The residents of the region have alleged that the MRPL-ONGC and MSEZ which use the Moodupadavu road are not taking steps to improve its condition, following which the road is in a deplorable condition.

The road has been providing connectivity to MRPL along with MSEZ extension area. However, smooth ride on Moodupadavu road near Surathkal is still a dream for many who are used to the humpy ride.

The road from Kalavar to Moodupadavu which provides connectivity to Bajpe till MRPL gate is filled with potholes. Neither the PWD nor the companies have made any attempt to repair the five km stretch of the road.

The potholes on the road has been causing great inconvenience to the vehicle users as well as pedestrians.

The rain water filled potholes has been posing danger to the two-wheeler riders. The potholes convert into a mini swimming pool during monsoon.  Many a time, the buses are seen stranded inside the potholes. While trying to avoid a pothole, a bus driver had hit a mini bus carrying MSEZ workers in the region recently.

In the past, only two buses were plying to Bajpe from Kalavar via Moodupadavu. After the setting up of industries in the region, as many as 15 buses ply to Kuthethoor. The bus owners have threatened to stop the service if the roads are not repaired.

The residents said that big companies are making use of the road. However, they have not bothered to provide basic facilities to the region. “The companies spend huge amount of money on few associations in the name of corporate responsibility. However, not for the village in which the company is situated.”

There is a plan to lay an alternative road to Bajpe through Kana, Kodikere, Jokatte. The villagers have urged the authorities to develop Moodupadavu road first.
