Mangaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said that Kambala will be organised during the upcoming Dasara kreedakoota in Mysuru.
Speaking during Gurupura Kambala, he said "as a Dasara committee vice chairman , I will take part in the meeting along with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Mysuru district in charge Minister and will bat for organising Kambala during Dasara. I want to ensure that Kambala will be organised every year during Dasara. We see Yakshagana troupes, and tiger dance during Dasara procession. Similarly, Kambala will also become a part of Dasara celebrations. About three acre land would be identified to organise Kambala and accommodate around 25,000 spectators."
"I have asked DK Kambala Samithi president Deviprasada Shetty to chalk out a plan for organising Kambala during Dasara in Mysuru. The government will extend all required support. There is a need to take Kambala to international level," said the Deputy Chief Minister.
Tourism promotion
The DCM said that he along with the tourism minister will convene a meeting in Mangaluru shortly to discuss tapping the tourism potential of the region. "Action plan will be prepared for the promotion of tourism, which in turn will help in the generation of employment. Though Dakshina Kannada, Udupi are known as educational hubs, it is a tragedy that youth move out of the district in search of employment. There is a need to retain youth in the district by generating employment here," he added.
Stating that Kambala is not restricted to a party, caste or religion, the Deputy CM said that there is a need to save the tradition and art of the region. The strength of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi lies in its history, which is known for its religious centres, educational institutions and culture. All of us have a responsibility to protect the culture and tradition of the land.
The undivided district has given births to banks, which laid a strong foundation for the economy of the country. The district has entered the pages of history for its contribution to the education sector which is known for the highest number of engineering and medical colleges.
Gurupura Kambala President Inayat Ali, former minister Ramanath Rai, and others were present.
