Mandya: A Kannada Bhavan commemorating the 87th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelana would be constructed in Mandya district, said Agriculture and District in-charge Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy. A suitable place would be identified and the foundation laying ceremony will be held soon for the construction, he said.
Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, Chaluvarayaswamy thanked everyone for the success of the three-day Sammelana, which concluded in the sugar town of Mandya on Sunday.
He said, "Sammelana chairman Go Ru Channappa expressed that if any sammelana was held in a systematic and successful manner, it was in Mandya".
The cooperation and support extended by the district administration and various departments, should continue for the overall development of Mandya district, he said.
He thanked the district administration, police department, ZP officials and staff, government staff who donated one day's pay for the sammelana, teachers, media and the people of the district for their support and cooperation, enabling them to conduct the festival in a smooth way.
Around five to six lakh people participated in the three-day literary festival, and more than 30 sessions were conducted.
"The food, accommodation, transport, expo, shops, cleanliness and hygiene and dais programmes were organised properly. More than 450 shops, selling books, readymade garments and others, did roaring business. The cultural programmes, musical nite, Police band, folk programmes provided perfect entertainment and was appreciated by visitors," he said.
We were fortunate to host the literary fest after a gap of 30 years. Writers and Kannada lovers from across Karnataka took part in the festival, he said.
He appreciated the 'Kannada Ratha, which was taken out across the state, for attracting people. 'Kannadakkagi Ota' marathon helped in publicising the event. Around 250 NRIs, from 18 countries, participated in the event, and appreciated the efforts, the minister said.
MLAs P Ravikumar and Ramesh Bandisiddegowda, Deputy Commissioner Kumar, ZP CEO Sheikh Tanveer Asif, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi, Mysugar Factory Chairman C D Gangadhar, MUDA Chairman Nayeem, Kannada Sahitya Parishat district convenor Meera Shivalingaiah, and honorary secretary Harsha Pannedoddi were present.
