Kannada folk lexicon to be released soon

Karnataka Janapada Academy president Go Ru Channabasappa said that three volumes of Kannada Janapada dictionary is getting ready, which will be released shortly.

Speaking to Deccan Herald prior to ‘Kudiya tribal dance expo organised at Nalkunadu palace premises recently, he said that the work on the dictionary is under progress.

 Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has agreed to release the dictionary.


“One field worker was deputed in each district to collect words related to folk. They have already collected the words,” he said.

The Janapada Sammelan which was held at Bidar had decided to urge the Centre to set up Janapada Academy at the national-level.

He said that a welfare fund for the folk artistes will be set up. The Kannada and Culture Minister has already given his nod for the same. The Assembly has given its permission for the setting up of Janapada University.

The University will come up at Gottagodi in Haveri district. “We have sought 500 acre land. A museum will be set up to portray folk culture in 100 acre land,” he informed.
