Bengaluru: Police in southern Bengaluru have arrested the husband of a 38-year-old Kannada television actress for stabbing her over marital discord.
As soon as Manjula C opened the door for her husband Amaresh H S, 49, on July 4, he pepper-sprayed her face and stabbed her violently. He then caught her by the hair and shoved her to the wall, police said.
Neighbours heard Manjula’s screams and separated the couple. Amaresh fled but was eventually caught by the police.
The couple’s two children — both daughters — were at school at the time of the incident.
Manjula, popularly known by her screen name Shruthi, was admitted to Victoria Hospital with stab injuries on her chest, thighs and neck area. She has recovered and was discharged from the hospital, a police officer closer to the investigation said.
The couple, who lived separately, had reconciled recently but not all was well between them, according to police.
The couple has been married for 20 years and has two daughters. Five years after marriage, Amaresh allegedly started harassing his wife over money and other domestic issues. Amaresh drives an auto for a living.
“There was marital discord. They quarrelled frequently over money and other matters,” a police officer close to the investigation said.
Following constant friction, Manjula filed a police complaint against her husband on April 4 and moved out with her children. She lived with her elder brother Ravi. However, three days before the stabbing, Amaresh called Manjula’s brother and promised to mend his ways. He said he would look after her and their children. So she moved back in with him again, according to police.
