Udupi: Karkala Rural Police have registered a case against a person for allegedly posting content on social media that promotes hatred between communities and disturbs public harmony.

In a complaint, complainant Rudresh, while monitoring social media at the Karkala Rural Police Station, noticed a post uploaded on Facebook. The post was allegedly made by Sudeep Shetty of Nitte village, Karkala taluk, through a Facebook page bearing the name “Sudeep Shetty Nitte.”

The post reportedly questioned the role of harmony committees and made provocative remarks in the context of Muslims performing duff during the Paryaya procession. The content was alleged to be derogatory and capable of inciting hatred among communities, thereby disturbing communal harmony and public peace.

Based on the complaint, Karkala Rural Police registered a case under Sections 196(1), 353(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Further investigation is in progress.
