Mysuru: Mysureans and stakeholders of various sectors have welcomed allocation of funds for a slew of projects for Mysuru—chief minister's home district— in 16th state budget presented by CM Siddaramaiah on Friday.
Karnataka government's commitment for establishing an international level film city and extending support for the expansion of airport won the crowd over.
They welcomed the announcement to convert the old DC office (Athara Kacheri) building of Mysuru into a state-level museum which will showcase the state’s culture, beginning of civilization as well as historical and social milestones.
Morever, Rs 100 Crore each have been allotted to establish institutes modelled on NIMHANS and even start Regional Endocrinology Centre at Mysore Medical College and Research Institute along with Kalaburagi Medical College.
The state also allotted Rs 120 Crore to build a state-of-the-art bus stand at Bannimantapa in Mysuru and Rs 3 Crore to construct a new fire station building in Mysuru city.
Rs 60 Crore were allotted to set up a new GTTC multi-skill development centre at Varuna in Mysuru under NABARD assistance.
Tourism stakeholders have welcomed the announcement to develop basic infrastructure with upgraded facilities at UNESCO World Heritage sites like Somanathpura, Beluru and Halebeedu.
They have also welcomed plans to open Hi-tech Matsya Darshini in Mysuru to provide tasty, hygienic and nutritious fish delicacies to tourists.
They also announced that will set up one bomb detection and disposal squads at Bellary, Davanagere, Mysuru and Bengaluru Central Zones during this year.
The government will upgrade Community Health Centre at Tagaduru in Mysuru district to a 100-bedded hospital and establish a Silk cocoon market with the assistance from NABARD in Mysuru to help silk farmers of Mysuru and surrounding areas.
They have earmarked a grant of Rs 1 Crore for digitalisation of 2,500 ancient palm-leaf manuscripts in Kuvempu Kannada Study Institute housed in University of Mysore. They have announced the start of Prof Nanjundaswamy Research Chair at UoM.
The government aims to establish a Tribal Museum in the campus of Tribal Research Institute in Mysuru city to showcase the Tribal Culture of the State.
Artists have also welcomed the announcement to provide a grant of Rs 2 crore for the activities of Rangayana in Mysuru.
They have earmarked Rs 2 crore to establish wrestling, volleyball, and Kho-Kho academies in Mysuru; Rs 7 Crore to set up a new Sports Science Centre at Mysuru along with one at Belagavi and allocated Rs 6 Crore to develop Kranthiveera Sangolli Rayanna stadium in T Narsipura taluk and Yalaburga taluk.
They have announced they will upgrade five Tribal Residential Schools to class 12 in Mysuru along with Chamarajanagar and Kodagu districts. They have earmarked Rs 5 Crore to upgrade government residential schools for special children at Mysuru and Belagavi and they plan to maintain them in cooperation with NGOs.
The government want to develop a state-of-the-art PCB (printed circuit board) in Mysuru on 150 acres of land, creating a dedicated ecosystem for electronics manufacturing to develop the Startup ecosystem in Mysuru along with Mangaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad and Kalburgi.
In order to further strengthen Karnataka’s leadership in the Global Capability Centres, they have planned to develop Global Innovation districts by KEONICS in Mysuru, Belagavi, Dharwad and Bengaluru.
CM has announced that the state government is developing an International level Film City in Mysuru at the cost of Rs 500 crore in PPP model. 150 acre land has been transferred to the Department of Information and Public relations for this projecy.
The State Government is committed to establish this Film City in the coming years.
Grant of Rs 319 crore has been released for the land acquisition process for the expansion of the runway at Mysuru Airport.
Necessary steps will be taken for utility. These funds are likely to be utilised to re-route or lay UG cabling of KPTCL lines; construction of box tunnels for five canals of irrigation department coming in the land acquired for Airport expansion.
