Udupi: Ajekaru police registered a case against the organiser of a Yakshagana and owner of sound system for not seeking appropriate permission from officials concerned at Garadi in Jarkala Mundli village in Ajekaru police station limits on Wednesday.
Ajekaru police station Inspector Shubhakara in a complaint said he was on patrolling duty on the night of January 14, when he noticed a Yakshagana play being staged without obtaining any permission from Panchayat Development Officer (PDO). When confronted, Yakshagana organiser Sadananda admitted on not having sought permission from the Gram panchayat. Ajekar Mahalakshmi Sounds owner Appu too had not sought permission from police for using the sound system. A case under Sections 292 (causing public nuisance) of BNS, 37 (violation in usage of loudspeakers) of Karnataka Police Act was registered at Ajekaru police station.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K justifying the case against organiser of Yakshagana, said following complaints from the public that loud noise was blaring out from the speakers and causing inconveniences, police had visited the spot and noticed that no permission was taken for use of loudspeaker. Despite being warned not to use loudspeaker after 11:30 pm, organisers had continued to use loudspeakers until 4 am on Wednesday morning.
SP clarified that permission is required to conduct cultural programmes and using loudspeakers in public places. "If there are any complaints from the public, police are committed to reviewing and taking action in accordance with the guidelines of the Supreme Court," SP emphasised.
