New Delhi: Attacking Karnataka Government, BJP Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi on Tuesday said that several maternal deaths were reported in Ballari district hospital and other places in the state due to failure to implement centrally sponsored welfare programmes in the health sector by the state.
Failure in implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and Mission Indradhanush (MI) led to 736 maternal deaths and 1100 infants deaths in the state for the past 19 months , Kadadi said.
Participating in a discussion on the working of the Health Ministry, Kadadi said that in 2023, the Central Government had sanctioned a 100 bed ESI hospital at Belagavi, however, the state was yet to allocate land to build the hospital.
Large scale corruption happened in Karnataka in procurement of the nutritional kits meant for the malnourished children of labourers, he said.
Demanding detailed inquiry, he said the Congress ruled state had done great injustice to 12.39 lakh construction workers. Though the market price for per kit was just Rs 1,000, the state department of labour paid Rs 2600 per kit, he alleged.
He also alleged that the Medical Education Department in Karnataka was involved in over Rs 117 crore scam in procurement of medical equipment to 18 medical colleges.
Despite the Central government announcing several welfare schemes in the health sector, the state is not implementing it properly, he alleged.
