Haveri: Four people accused in the Hangal gang-rape case and granted bail were arrested again after they took out a "victory procession" celebrating their release from jail on Friday.
Haveri superintendent of police Anshu Kumar said that 19 persons were arrested in the 2024 gang-rape case registered in Hangal police station. While 12 were granted bail previously, the remaining seven got bail on May 20 and were released subsequently from Haveri jail.
Soon after release, the seven accused took out a "victory procession" on bikes from Haveri till Akki Alur. The video clips of the roadshow led to widespread outrage on social media. "We registered a case soon after the videos came to our notice. They have been arrested for violating bail conditions," the SP said.
The arrested are Samiulla Abdul Wahid Lalanavar (28), Mohammed Sadiq Babusab Agasimani (30), Shoaib Niyaz Ahmed Mulla alias Shoaib (32) and Riyaz Abdul Rafiq Savikeri (32). The police are on the lookout for the other three.
The SP said an application will be made to cancel the bail of all the seven.
