Lakshmeshwar (Gadag district): Four schoolgirls were hospitalised after a group of miscreants threw chemical-mixed colours on them during Holi celebrations at Suvarnagiri Tanda near here on Friday.

More than 10 girls were waiting to board a bus to Lakshmeshwar at Suvarnagiri Tanda. A group of youths arrived on bikes and started throwing colours, mixed with dung, mud, eggs, fertiliser and other chemicals, at the girls. They did not stop even after the girls boarded the bus.

Four girls complained of breathlessness and chest pain after they alighted the bus at Lakshmeshwar. They were rushed to the community health centre in the town. The condition of two girls - Gouri Pujari and Divya Lamani - started deteriorating and were rushed to Gadag district hospital.

Boy drowns in lake

A 15-year-old boy from Yalavatti in Lakshmeshwar taluk drowned in the village lake after celebrating Holi. Devendragouda Rachangoudar drowned in Gundeshwar lake when he ventured into it to beat the scorching heat and wash his off colours.
