Bengaluru: The state energy department plans to approach the central government to implement the KUSUM-A scheme. This initiative aims to encourage local solar power generation and consumption, particularly benefiting farmers and rural communities.

The state has already implemented the KUSUM-B and KUSUM-C schemes.

"The KUSUM-A scheme allows farmers, farmer groups, cooperative societies, panchayats, farmer producer organisations, and water user associations to establish solar power plants with capacities ranging from 500 kilowatts to a maximum of two megawatts, located within five kilometres of electricity substations. They can utilise the electricity generated, while the government will purchase any surplus. This initiative will help address power shortages and provide farmers with additional income. In this regard, discussions will be held with union ministers to implement the KUSUM-A scheme,” said Energy Minister KJ George.

George added that there is no power shortage in the state and that the department has ensured farmers receive seven hours of electricity supply daily.
