Bengaluru: To mark the second anniversary of its rule in the state, the Congress government will distribute one lakh title deeds to residents of tandas and hattis on May 20. The party is planning a big public celebration to commemorate the successful completion of two years in power in Hospet, Vijayanagar district.
Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda on Friday pointed out that, under the previous governments, one lakh title deeds had been distributed to the families in the tandas and hattis over the span of five years. “But in only one-and-a-half years since coming to power, we have distributed 1.3 lakh title deeds under Section 94(D) of the Land Revenue Act. The plan is to distribute title deeds to two lakh families by the end of the year,” the minister said.
Krishna Byre Gowda further pointed out that it was the Congress, in its previous stint in office from 2013 to 2018, that had introduced a law to provide title deeds to families living in hattis and tands, besides granting them ‘revenue village’ status to them.
The minister cited examples of instances where even those with title deeds were not getting original documents. “Similarly, 2-3 people have documents for the same property. Now, we are providing digital title deeds, eliminating the possibility of the original documents getting lost,” Krishna Byre Gowda added.
However, Gowda explained that the government would also register these lands for them and get the khatas registered.
Phodi durasthi
The government has also decided to do Phodi durasthi across the state to provide proper documents.
“Since property documents haven’t been changed to show the names of the landowners, we have been doing a cost-free drive since January to issue the correct papers. In the last three years, Phodi Durasthi was done in 5,800 cases. We have 88,888 documents and have surveyed 30,476 since January. The pending ones will be cleared at the rate of around 6,000 to 7,000 a month. We plan to complete the exercise by next year,” the Revenue Minister said.
