New Delhi: Attacking the Karnataka government for announcing 15 per cent hike in the bus fare, the BJP on Friday said that people of the state are paying a hefty price for the freebies and fake promises made by Congress.

"The Congress party's politics of fake promises and freebies have pushed states like Himachal Pradesh into bankruptcy and are now driving Karnataka toward the same fate, " BJP leader Rajeev Chandrasekhar told reporters here.

"The proof lies in the fact that the Himachal Pradesh CM is now discussing the subsidy provided by the BJP government, which waived 125 units, while the electoral promise of 300 free units has been completely forgotten. Similarly, in Karnataka, the government has increased bus fares by 15 per cent.

"The Congress's ideology of fake promises, along with the cost and suffering it causes, are ultimately borne by the common man, as the people of Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh are now realising," he said.
