Mangaluru: Karnataka health minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has asked officials to initiate a probe into the reasons behind multiple cases of heart attacks in Hassan district.
“Several cases related to heart attacks have been reported recently in Hassan district. I have directed the health department to investigate why so many heart attacks are occurring, specifically in that district, and to submit a report,” said Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
Speaking to reporters here on Monday, he said, “Once the report is submitted, the truth behind the issue will come to light. Due to modern lifestyle, food habits, excessive use of mobile phones, and digital addiction, health problems are increasing. Many people are developing issues like high blood pressure and diabetes at a young age. Air pollution, water contamination, and unhealthy food are also contributing to the deterioration of health,” he added.
“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to the Chief Secretary directing an inquiry into the rise in heart attack cases post-covid. This is not just a problem of Karnataka; there is a need for global-level research on this matter,” he opined.
In a circular passed on Monday, the department noted that 18 such deaths were reported from Hassan over the last month.
The department has directed the expert committee formed under the leadership of Director, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiology, to investigate the cause of these deaths along with the Hassan Institute of Medical Science and submit a report within the next ten days.
