Bengaluru: The Kalaburagi bench of the Karnataka High Court on Thursday disposed of the petition filed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) after the authorities granted it conditional permission to hold the route march in Chittapur town on November 16.
Justice MGS Kamal disposed of the petition filed by Ashok Patil, a Convenor of RSS, after modifying one of the conditions at the request of the advocate for the petitioner.
During the hearing, the court was informed that on November 12, the Tahsildar of Chittapur Town, the Taluk Executive Magistrate, granted the permission after imposing certain conditions.
Senior Advocate Aruna Shyam, appearing for the petitioner, requested that the condition limiting the number of participants to 300 and the number of members in the band to 25 must be relaxed and allow 600 people to participate and to have 50 members in the band.
To this, Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty submitted that the numbers mentioned in the order were fixed after a detailed consideration, taking in view the number of participants in the previous meetings conducted by the petitioner in the nearby areas.
However, Arun Shyam said that since the march is being conducted to mark 100 years of the RSS organisation, the request is being made as a one-time measure considering the sentiments of the people. He further requested the court to at least increase the number of members in the band from 25 to 50.
Considering this request, which was not opposed by the Advocate General, Justice Kamal modified the second condition by increasing the number of members in the band to 50. “Except this, the rest of the order (of the Tahasildar) remains the same,” the court said.
