Belagavi: A person who had allegedly kidnapped a pregnant minor victim of child marriage on July 31 was arrested and produced before the court on Monday.

The incident took place at the Srushti Open Care Centre for women at Mahantesh Nagar here.

Police said, District Child Welfare Committee had sent the 13-year-old minor from Miraj town in Sangli district in Maharashtra to Karnataka on July 25 and she was provided shelter.

The accused, identified as one Chandrakant Dashrath Lagwe, a resident of Basav Nagar in Yadwad village had come to give medicines to the minor girl and gained entry illegally. He forcefully took the minor girl with him by threatening the staff with a knife.

Police Inspector J M Kalimirchi and team were able to finally able to Chandrakant and produced him before court.

Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase said the girl was rescued and the accused has been nabbed.

Mal-Maruti police is investigating the crime.
