“I feel ashamed to say this, being a Kannadiga,” he said.

Pai was speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants during the World Kannada Convention. He encouraged the participating entrepreneurs to set up new software units in Belgaum.

Replying to a question, Pai said there was no required infrastructure in Belgaum to start a new unit of Infosys. “Besides, Karnataka is the most corrupt state and it is impossible for us to start anything new here.”

“There are also no flight services to Belgaum. No flights means a big hurdle for investment in the city by outsiders or big companies. You better prepare a master plan for the development of the city, taking everybody into confidence, and submit the same to the government,” he suggested.
