Belagavi: A moulavi from a mosque at Yaragatti town in Belagavi who had allegedly raped a minor girl on October 5, 2023 was arrested by the police and investigations were in progress.
One Puneeth Kerehalli in a post on X had complained to DGP and SP Belagavi on August 5 that a girl was raped in the mosque at Yargatti on October 5, 2023 and father of the victim has been awaiting justice. Mosque management allegedly tried to prevent the police from filing the complaint.
Superintendent of Police Dr Bheemashankar Guled informed on Wednesday that the District Social Media Monitoring Cell brought the X post to his notice and investigations into the case were taken up.
Police traced the victim and her parents, but they refused to file a complaint against the moulavi. Father of the victim contended that they were not filing complaint in the interest of future of the girl.
Video of the interaction was used as evidence and District Child Protection Committee was asked to file the complaint. Based on the complaint accused moulavi Tufelahmad Dadapeer Nagarchi (22), resident of Mahalingpur in Mudhol taluk in Bagalkot district, has been arrested, he said.
