Bengaluru: The state health department is re-establishing the Covid Death Audit Team to review and control deaths due to Covid in Karnataka.

According to a government order issued on Tuesday, the team will be headed by Dr Shashibhushan B L, professor and HoD, pulmonary medicine, Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI).

State health commissioner Sivakumar K B had written to the government requesting to have a team identify cause of deaths, comorbidities, vaccination status and hospitalisation data of those who have died, review the cases, and submit recommendations and SOPs to the health department.

The state government has approved this request and is reinstating the Covid deaths audit team that was formed in 2024, with a few changes in personnel.

The team will include Dr Vasanth Kumar, state nodal officer, Covid deaths audit team; Directors of the Medical Education and the Health and Family Welfare (HFW) departments; Joint Director (Medical) of the HFW department; Deputy Director, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme and member secretary, Covid-19 Technical Advisory Committee (TAC); Director of the Institute of Nephro-Urology; State Drugs Controller; and eight doctors from different specialisations in Bengaluru.

Covid count in Karnataka

Sixty four fresh cases of Covid were reported on Wednesday, bringing the state's total active case count to 466. Karnataka's cumulative Covid positive figure this year has increased to 2,109 cases.

According to the state health department’s Covid bulletin, at least 1,632 patients have recovered since the beginning of this year.
