Periyapatna (Mysuru dist): Tibetans accorded a traditional welcome to spiritual leader Dalai Lama, who arrived at Tibetan settlement in Bylakuppe, Periyapatna taluk, Mysuru district, on Sunday. He is on a one-month stay at the Tibetan settlement.
Dalai Lama arrived by a special helicopter from Bengaluru and landed at the helipad at the new fourth camp at Bylakuppe. He proceeded by car to the Tashilumbu Buddhist Monastery, with Z-plus security to Lakshmipura village, with the security of around 250 police personnel.
More than 10,000 people attired in Tibetan costumes were waiting for him on the road from morning and accorded a warm welcome to their leader.
They showered petals of flowers and also played Tibetan instruments to welcome him. The Dalai Lama greeted the gathering and wished thousands of Tibetans and Buddist monks a happy New Year.
Hunsur Assistant Commissioner Vijaykumar, Tahsildar Nisarga Priya, Village Accountant Naveen Rao welcomed him on behalf of the district administration.
Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, Additional SP Nagesh, Dy SP Gopalakrishna, Circle Inspector Deepak and other officials were present.
