Bengaluru: Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy has directed officials to issue notices and even cancel contracts of private agencies that fail to keep toilets at bus stations clean.

In a letter dated August 17, he noted that he had received numerous complaints regarding filthy toilets at bus stations, overcharging users and misbehaving with passengers when they raise objections.

He cited the case of a woman passenger, who felt embarrassed by the poor state of the men's toilet near the ticket counter at the Mysuru Road Satellite Bus Station in western Bengaluru.

In response to the complaint, Reddy said a retaining wall had already been constructed. Other corrective measures have also been taken before passengers voiced their concerns.

He warned that private agencies entrusted with toilet maintenance through tendering must fulfill their responsibilities effectively without leaving room for complaints.
