Hubballi: Union Government has gazette notified 28 acres of industrial area in Ittigatti on the outskirts of Dharwad as special economic zone for consumer electronics and durable goods (CEDG) on Wednesday.
Announcing this on his X-account (formerly known as twitter) Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi said this notification will help Hubballi-Dharwad to emerge as the new hub for the manufacturing of electronic products and create more jobs.
Bengaluru based Aequs Infra, which operates Koppal toy cluster and Belagavi’s Aerospace SEZ among others, own a 390 acres of land in Ittigatti. Out of this the Union Commerce and Industry Ministry has identified 28 acres as SEZ, which will attract special exemptions and facilities. Joshi says there are provisions for expansion of the SEZ following the growth in coming days.
It can be mentioned that the electronic cluster started functioning from October 2022 and has a potential to create more than 20,000 jobs over the next decade, according to Joshi.
