Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh on Tuesday wrote to her Andhra Pradesh counterpart seeking revocation of a ban imposed by the Chittoor district administration on the entry of Totapuri mangoes from other states.

The ‘unilateral and abrupt’ ban had landed mango farmers, particularly those in the border regions who rely extensively on processing units in Chittoor, in distress, wrote Shalini in her letter.

Shalini said that such a decision went against the ‘spirit of co-operative federalism’, besides carrying the risk of ‘triggering retaliatory sentiments’.
