Mandya: More than 2,000 cusecs water was discharged into the river after a crest gate of the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) dam opened suddenly, in Srirangapatna taluk of Karnataka's Mandya district.

Negligence of the officials is alleged for the wastage of water.

It is said that one of the crest gates suddenly opened on Sunday night and water discharged into the river. The gate was brought down on Monday night.

It is yet to be ascertained on how the crest gate opened. However, the officials took out the operation and closed the gate on Monday.

The workers had to struggle to close the gate as the force of the water was more, with the water level of the dam above 106-ft.

After hours of struggle, the officials were successful in bringing the gate down, according to sources.
