Sindhanur, Raichur: A youth allegedly killed a 24-year-old girl student by slitting her throat after she refused to marry him, in Gowtham Layout on the outskirts of Sindhanur on Thursday.

The police have identified the deceased as Shifa Abdul Wahid, who was studying MSc at government college, Sindhanur. Mubin, a tiles worker from Lingsugur, surrendered to the police and confessed to the crime.

According to the police, Mubin was in love with Shifa. However, Shifa had said that she would marry him only if her family members consented.

On Thursday morning, Shifa had come to the college from Lingsugur by a bus. Mubin, who followed her on a two-wheeler, asked her to come to Gowtham Layout saying he wanted to talk to her.

He then slit Shifa's throat with a knife.
