Recently, the Special Lokayukta Court had rejected his bail application, but had allowed him to avail treatment anywhere in the country.
Katta, who is also suffering from Compressive Myelopathy (destruction of spinal cord tissue), has to undergo cervical discectomy surgery, but it was deferred as his lymphoma - which has now relapsed - was accidentally diagnosed by doctors at the hospital during a PET-CT scan.
“He had not disclosed details about his lymphoma he has been suffering from since 2004. He has undergone surgery for the same in a hospital in London. Due to his lymphoma, the surgery for compressive myelopathy was deferred,” said doctors in Victoria Hospital.
They said as far as Katta’s health prognosis is concerned, his treatment for lymphoma is more important than that for his spinal problem.
Although Katta has severe pain in his neck and hind lower limbs due to compressive myelopathy - which is caused when the spinal cord is pressed against the vertebral bones - chemotherapy treatment for lymphoma is more essential now. Katta has diabetes and hypertension, too.
The former minister was admitted to Victoria Hospital on September 22, where he has occupied the VIP ward on the second floor of the centenary building.
Doctors at the hospital say there are six rooms in this ward, which cost Rs 250 per day.
