The Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) was detected in two ticks collected from Herooru and Sthirooru areas of the taluk.

Mahendra Kireeti, the taluk medical officer, said that the blood samples of seven suspected patients who tested for the KFD have turned negative.

Seven monkeys were found dead in the taluk so far. The viscera of a dead monkey at Arehalli on Wednesday has been sent to laboratory for testing.

Measures have been initiated within a 10-km radius of the area where the ticks with the KFD virus were found, to check the spread of the KFD virus.

The officer has appealed to the people living in the fringes of the forests to take precautionary measures like application of DMP oil on the body, while venturing inside the forest. The death of monkeys should be brought to the notice of the officials, he stressed.
