Kharge was in the City on Sunday to campaign for the Congress candidate contesting the Bellary Rural bypoll. The byelection has been necessitated due to the resignation of former minister Sriramulu.
He said that the taxpayers are forced to bear the huge expenses of bypoll caused unnecessarily by the legislators’ resignation. “The BJP resorted to Operation Lotus to secure majority in the Assembly. Luring of the Opposition MLAs led to bypolls,” he said.
He criticised Sriramulu for resigning from the post in protest against his own party, stating his self-respect was at stake.
