“The marketing, planning, and the quality teams have been asked to study the market and come up with new products,” KMF managing director, Shivaswamy B told Metrolife.

KMF is currently planning to come up with protein-rich flavoured milk and yoghurt.

“Protein-rich products have a market. People are health conscious and go to the gym. Whey protein is common. To attract youngsters, we want to introduce protein-rich flavoured milk and such other products,” Shivaswamy added.

Another official said that the milk production in the state has improved significantly over the years which makes it important to look at production of new products.

The success of protein-rich idli and dosa batter in Bengaluru has also prompted the federation to introduce them in markets out of the city.

“The plan is to introduce them in tier-II cities like Mysuru, Tumkur, and Mangaluru,” a senior KMF official said.

Expansion in north India

KMF recently introduced Nandini milk in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The officials said that they were looking at stabilising the supply in these states before venturing into other states.

At present, close to 45,000 litres of Nandini milk is supplied across Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

“We have just entered these markets and it is important to focus on stabilising the supply chain in one state before venturing into others. Now, Nandini has a presence in at least eight states and we need to settle down in these states before moving on to others,” a senior KMF official said.

KMF has also set up Nandini parlour in a few metro stations in Delhi and is planning to expand the market.
