Several workers and earth moving machines worked continuously to remove the huge boulders, stones and mud that covered the track.
Train No 6337 Okha – Ernakualm Express was the first train to pass through the landslip area at 7.55 pm. Prior to giving green signal to the train, a trial run was undertaken on the damaged stretch.
4 trains rescheduled
As the Konkan route was closed for rail traffic between Mangalore and Surathkal, four long-distance trains were re-scheduled while the Mangalore - Madgaon Verna Passenger (KR1) was cancelled on Sunday.
The rescheduled trains include:
Train No 2977 Ernakulam – Ajmer Superfast Express scheduled to leave Ernakulam at 19:15 hrs on June 27 wasrescheduled to leave at 07.00 hrs on June 28. Train No. 2617 Ernakulam-Nizamuddin Mangala Express scheduled to leave Ernakulam at 10.45 hrs on June 28 is rescheduled to leave at 14.30 hrs on the same day (June 28); Train No. 2997 Tirunelveli- Hapa Express scheduled to leave Tirunelveli at 05.45 hrs on June 28 is rescheduled to leave at 20.00 hrs on the same day (June 28).
Train No. 6346 Trivandrum- Lokmanya Tilak Nethavathi Express scheduled to leave Trivandrum Central at 10.00 hrs on June 28 is rescheduled to leave at 18.00 hrs on the same day (June 28).
The above trains are rescheduled due to late running of pairing trains, said S James, the Public Relations Officer of Palakkad Railway division.
Passengers inconvenience
Due to landslip at two places between Padil and Thokkur stations, Train No 2619 Lokmanya Tilak - Mangalore Central Matsyagandha Express scheduled to arrive at Mangalore Central on June 27 was terminated at Suratkal station and passengers were transported by bus to Mangalore central.
Likewise, Train No 2620 Mangalore Central - Lokmanya Tilak Matsyagandha Express started from Suratkal and passengers were transported by bus from Mangalore Central to Suratkal.
Though the railway authorities had arranged two buses and five tempos, a number of passengers made their own arrangements to reach Surathkal.
The heavy rains which lashed the region on Friday and Saturday, gave a break on Sunday. Though it rained for some time in the morning, the cloud was clear with sunshine till evening.
