Bengaluru: Congress leader D K Suresh on Monday sought to draw curtains on the contention for the party’s Karnataka president’s post, currently held by his brother and Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

“The KPCC president’s post is not vacant,” Suresh said and ruled himself out of the race to head the party.

Suresh said this amid speculation that a section of leaders is trying to have Shivakumar replaced as the Karnataka Congress president.

Commenting on Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna’s statement that he would resign from the Cabinet if asked to head the party, Suresh said: “Rajanna is an all-party senior and powerful leader. I’m confident that the party will become more organised under him.”

“He has a good rapport with both BJP and JD(S). He may bring some people from there, I think. That’s why he must be on his toes to lead the party,” Suresh said.

On his name (Suresh) being speculated for the KPCC president’s post, Suresh said: “Some people float my name to impress me. But I am on rest. I don’t aspire for any position.”
