He was speaking at the release of 10 books organised by Prasaranga in the city on Wednesday.

Expressing the need for an increased co-ordination between Kannada Sahitya Parishat and KSOU, Prof Rangappa said that including scholars would enhance the quality of studies.
He said that new courses on computer science (CS), law (LLM) offered by KSOU has generated a huge response. He said that Kannada online diploma courses are also being offered by the university.

Commending the courses offered by KSOU, president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Prof Nallur Prasad said that the university has a special power and quality as all other universities are for students who pursue studies on a regular basis.

However, KSOU gives an opportunity for thousands of students who are working in various fields to continue their studies. Expressing the need for providing quality books to the public, he said that annually 40 lakh books are sold by Kannada Sahitya Parishat. People are ready to buy and read books, however the books should have quality, he observed. He advised Prasaranga also to publish ‘serious’ books instead of becoming a commercial publisher.

Explaining his concern over the quality of books, he said that after the next 20 years it would be difficult to find authors with a good knowledge about classical literature.
He said that Nrupathunga Award for the year has been given to Dr C P Krishnakumar and Devanur Mahadev.

Honorary director of Prasaranga, Prof D K Rajendra, and Dean(Academic), Jagadish Rao were present.
