Dr Varghese Kurien of the milk revolution fame was all praise for the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) on Tuesday.
“KMF is a testimony to the power of co-operatives as it has emerged as the second largest dairy in India. Dairy farmers here must be proud of this achievement, said Kurien.
Kurien was speaking at a programme organised by the Federation to felicitate him in the city. Despite this, the living standards of many farmers are far from satisfactory. The only solution to this is to bring in more co-operatives as this would help in generating employment, he said.
In his speech, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda hailed Kurien and said the State owes its success to his guidance. Gowda sought more guidance from Kurien and hoped that Karnataka would go the Gujarat way in the dairy sector.
KMF Chairman G Somashekhara Reddy said the turnover of the Federation was Rs five crore this year and efforts would be made to increase it to Rs six crore by next year. Presently, the Federation has 58 products.
Processed cheese spread, matka kulfi, casatta, chocolate and coconut barfi, fresh cream, diced paneer and other products were launched by the Federation on the occasion.
