Shivamogga: Konkani and Marathi writer Mahabaleshwar Sail has been selected for the Kuvempu National Award for 2025.

In a press note, the Kuppali-based Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Pratishtana said the award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh and a silver medal. The award presentation ceremony will be held at Kuppali in Thirthahalli taluk on December 29, the birth anniversary of the poet laureate Kuvempu, he added.

Mahabaleshwar Sail is originally from Shejebag village near Majali in Uttara Kannada district. He has served in the Indian Army and the United Nations Peacekeeping Force. After retirement, he also served in the forest, police and postal departments in Goa and is currently residing there.

Sail has received the prestigious Saraswati Samman Award for his novel ‘Hawthan’.

His collection of stories ‘Taranga’ has received the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award and the Goa Government Literary Award.
