Gundlupet, Chamarajanagar district: A 45-year-old labourer was killed in a wild jumbo attack near Mangala village under Bandipur Tiger Reserve limits in Gundlupet taluk of Chamarajanagar district, on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Kariyan of Balethota hamlet, near Masinagudi in Tamil Nadu. He was living in Adinakanive hamlet for the past one year.

It is said that he was on his way to a grocery shop when the elephant attacked him. Two more people who were accompanying him had run to safety.

DCF Prabhakaran, ACF Satish and RFO Vairamudi rushed to the spot. The body was shifted to the taluk hospital and handed over to the family members after post-mortem.

ACF Suresh said that as per the guidelines a compensation of Rs 15 lakh would be paid to the family of the deceased.
