Labourers observe strike in city

Several offices including banks and employees of the government owned BSNL participated in the protest, leaving offices completely void. The employees staged a demonstration in front of the deputy commissioner’s office.

CITU employees union demanded that all employees should be included in ‘Bhavishyanidhi’ programme. Minimum Wages Act should be implemented. They also urged disbursement of salary before fifth of every month. All employees should be provided with service letters. The members demanded that labour laws should be enforced without any changes.
Minimum wages should be fixed for Grama Panchayat workers. Employement opportunities should be created. Several unions including women’s groups, and daily-wage workers supported the strike.

Government employees demanded the formation of sixth pay commission.   Union leaders G Ramakrishna, C N Lokesh, Manjularaj led the protest.
