Lack of rains worries farmers in Kadur

Last Updated IST

Farmers in some areas have already removed the sown ragi seeds, which did not germinate, from their fields and are waiting for rains to sow it again.

Though the ragi seeds sown in the first phase were germinated, saplings were fading due to lack of rain. Meanwhile, villagers also anticipate a reduction in the yield of corn in the taluk.

If ragi cultivation was affected due to lack of rain, farmers also will have to face the shortage of hay to feed their cattle. Farmers had already spent around Rs 2,000 per acre for ragi cultivation, which is the second largest crop in the taluk.

There were no rains in the taluk for the past several days from the last week of July.
