The KSRTC bus shelter is situated in the heart of Puttur town. The public toilets inside the bus shelter have been used by thousands of passengers.
However, owing to shortage of water, the public toilet gets water only in the mornings. Hence, the toilet gets closed in the afternoon, thus causing lot of inconvenience to the public.
Since the sewage from the KSRTC toilet started flowing out, the toilet was locked. However, when the public started complaining about the same, they were asked to use the toilets in the commercial complex of the Puttur TMC till the toilets in the bus shelter were repaired. However, the KSRTC has not made any attempts to repair the toilets so far.
With this, the toilets of commercial complex have become permanent public toilets. To give way for new bus shelter, which is coming up in Puttur, water connection to the toilets in the commercial complex has been disconnected.
Though the public were using the toilets of commercial complex, water was supplied from the KSRTC bus shelter tank. However, now the supply of water has been stopped. School children, public are put to hardship with lack of water in the toilet.
While traveling, people who require answering nature’s call find no toilet anywhere near the bus shelter. As they have no where to go, many have taken an easier- and much preferred option, that is,  the walls on the sides of the bus shelter, or any other open space nearby.
Local residents say that since there are no proper toilets, many travelers are seen using roadsides as toilets. With this, they say that there is a need to provide good toilets at the bus shelter so as to save the beauty of the city and also to maintain cleanliness.
