Deputy commissioner K P Mohanraj said 50 acres of land has been sanctioned for opening of Police Training College (PTC) in the district and necessary land will be allotted for the construction of prisons within a week’s time.

Speaking as the chief guest at the Police Martyrs’ day programme held on the premises of police quarters, he lauded the service of the police department to the society.
The police personnel are on duty 24 hours of the day all the 365 days of the year and it is difficult to explain their work schedule.

It is really frightening to even think what will happen to the society if they shun their responsibilities even for a day, Mohanraj said.

Superintendent of police had appealed to allot site for the construction of police quarters in the district, which would be considered and site allotted within a month, he assured.
District principle and sessions judge K B Changappa who presided over the programme said though police department has been striving for the people, the society, however, is always pinpointing the minor errors.

It is not just sufficient if they are paid their salaries but they should be equipped with updated arms and sufficient staff, he opined.

Earlier, the justice, deputy commissioner, SP Singh and other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the memorial. Amit Singh read the names of 574 policemen who passed away while on duty including six from the state.
