Bengaluru: The state government on Monday notified the Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Act, 2025, after it received President Droupadi Murmu’s assent.
The new law introduces a reform with which physical appearance at sub-registrar offices will not be required during property registrations. The Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bill was passed by the legislature in February 2024.
The amendment also makes it compulsory for general powers of attorney (GPA) to be registered.
In September 2024, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot reserved this Bill for President Murmu’s assent. He had returned the Bill to the state government, expressing safety concerns over ‘faceless’ registrations.
Murmu gave her assent to the Bill on July 22.
