Chikkamagaluru: Invoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's act of being directly involved in the consecration of the Ayodhya Ram Temple in 2024, Karnataka Labour Minister Santosh Lad on Sunday said that OBCs should be allowed to participate in temple rituals.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself performed the idol installation and consecration at the Ayodhya Ram Temple. In the same way, a law should be implemented to allow members of backward classes to participate in rituals at all temples," said Labour Minister Santosh Lad on Sunday.
Responding to reporters in Koppa, he said, "During the consecration at the Ram Temple, there were no priests or Brahmins present. Only Modi was there. Modi himself has said he belongs to the OBC. Shouldn’t the small communities, including those who built the temple and sculpted the idol, also get the opportunity to perform idol installations?," he questioned.
"Just like the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, a law should be enacted to allow members of the OBC community to perform rituals in temples. That is my request," he added.
