Bengaluru: Despite persisting infighting in the Congress, special representative of the government in Delhi T B Jayachandra said on Sunday that a leadership change was unlikely till local body elections were over.

He told reporters: "The only issue in front of us is the upcoming local bodies polls. We will focus on it and try our best to win. The court has also served an ultimatum on holding them. Thus, I can say from my experience that such processes (change of leadership) will not happen now.”

Jayachandra, a seven-time MLA, asked his colleagues to abide by AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge’s directive to not air intra-party grievances in public.

“We are proud that Mallikarjun Kharge is the only AICC president from Karnataka after Nijalingappa (former CM). He has himself said everyone should shut their mouths. That means none should speak out of turn.”

When asked about differences among Congress MLAs in his home district Tumakuru, Jayachandra only said that small differences would be there.
