The legal team advising Karnataka on the Cauvery water row, is learnt to have suggested the State government to release water to Tamil Nadu according to the “award” given by the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC).
Releasing some quantity of water to Tamil Nadu will help the State’s case in the apex court, the lawyers apparently said.
When Karnataka Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai met F S Nariman, head of the legal team, here on Friday, the latter reportedly advised that the state should always give an impression that it respects all authorities on the water dispute. Karnataka need not release 8.85 tmc ft of water immediately, as directed by the CMC. However, the state should release at least some quantity to send a message that it is following the decision of the highest authorities, the legal team said.
