Kolar: Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said on Friday that the socio-economic and educational survey would benefit the Lingayats and Vokkaligas as the report has recommended a hike in reservation for both the dominant communities.
"The Vokkaligas, who are currently classified under 3A Category, enjoy 4% reservation. The survey report has proposed increasing the hike to 7%. Similarly, Lingayats under 3B Category are currently enjoying 5% reservation. The report has recommended a 3% hike taking it to 8%. The Lingayats and the Vokkaligas, along with other backward classes, will benefit if the report is implemented," he told reporters at Chowdenahalli in Kolar taluk.
"The Supreme Court has clearly stated that the reservation should be fixed based on the accurate population data. Accordingly we conducted the socio-economic and educational survey, which a section of media and others misconstrued as caste census. Nowhere in the report has it mentioned caste census," the minister said.
