Goan liquor being transported towards Lokapur in Bagalkot and vehicle combined worth Rs 30 lakh were seized by the sleuths from Excise Department on the Khanapur-Nandgad road in Khanapur taluk on Friday morning.
Deputy Commissioner of Excise Arunkumar K informed reporters here on Friday that based on tip-off that huge quantity of liquor from Goa was being smuggled in the state for assembly elections, watch had been kept on the vehicles plying on Khanapur-Nandgad and Londa-Khanapur road.
During checkup of an Eicher bearing registration No MH 46 BB 6293 being driven by Bhavan Murji Gandhi resident of Bhuj in Gujarat, 900 boxes of Royal Blue whisky worth Rs 18 lakh were found. The vehicle was worth Rs 12 lakh, he said.
During interrogation, the driver informed that he was taking the liquor to Lokapur in Bagalkot, but the consignment was meant for whom has to be investigated, he stated.
